It's all in the details...

The Appaloosa breed is noted for their unique coloring and many varied patterns. They also have breed-specific characteristics. That's what makes them so much fun to paint.

As an artist, special attention must be paid to all these little details to create a believable, realistic Appaloosa model.

1. White sclera around eyes

2. Mottled skin

3. Striped hooves

4. Halos around spots

5. Varnishing as color roans and fades

And don't forget the little extras, like the bottoms of hooves, decorated base, or adding some "grass" for a grazing mare to munch on, or the spear for FSU's mascot, Renegade! Adding a final gloss to teeth, eyes, inside nostrils, and hooves if desired, will complete your realistic Appy!
